LITTLE MIKE AND THE TORNADOES "ALL THE RIGHT MOVES"

Queens native Little Mike grew up on the very competitive New York City music scene. He started playing harp at age 14 and took up piano two years later. His first brush with the blues came while hearing John Lee Hooker at Carnegie Hall and later listening to a Paul Butterfield record. After that Little Mike couldn't get enough. If a blues show was in New York City, Mike was there, especially when the Chicago players came to town. His favorite was Muddy Waters. "I used to go and see Muddy anytime he was within 150 miles of New York," he said. "He is easily the biggest influence on the band and my playing. And if it's not Muddy himself then it's the great guys he always picked to play with him, like Pinetop Perkins and Otis Spann on the piano or Little Walter and James Cotton on harp."Another musician Mike greatly admired was Paul Butterfield, who would regularly come and see Mike's band perform. He liked their old "Chess sound" and took Mike under his wing. Mike says, "He helped me become less of a blues purist, and more of a music purist. Paul opened up my playing and taught me to put my blues in other music forms, to make it very personal." Other influences cited include Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, the Rolling Stones, Jimmy Reed, Eddie Taylor, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Walter Horton. After leading a series of bands as a teenager, Mike formed the Tornadoes in 1978. At age 22, Mike was leading one of the busiest and toughest blues bands in New York City. Whenever a visiting blues artist came to town and needed a band, Little Mike and the Tornadoes usually got the call, backing artists such as Walter Horton, Otis Rush, Bo Diddley, Lightning Hopkins, and Big Mama Thornton. Mike's reputation led to the band's touring as the backing unit for blues legends such as Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, and Jimmy Rogers.Little Mike and the Tornadoes proudly describe themselves as a "working class band" that plays blues with a rock 'n' roll edge. "We all come from working class families and tough, working class neighborhoods," says Mike. "Working class people have always been our biggest supporters." Music luminaries who have sat in with the band include Robert Cray, Jaco Pastorius, Kim Wilson, Jorma Kaukonen, James Cotton, Los Lobos' Cesar Rosas and David Hidalgo, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Taj Majal. In 1988, Mike played on and produced Pinetop Perkin's first domestic release, After Hours. The following year he did the same for Hubert Sumlin's Heart & Soul. Both recordings are available on Blind Pig.In 1990, Blind Pig released the first solo album by Little Mike and the Tornadoes, Heart Attack, which Mike also produced. It features all original songs and guest appearances by Perkins, Sumlin, Butterfield, Ronnie Earl, and Big Daddy Kinsey. The album thrust the band out into the spotlight, where they began to tour almost non-stop across North America and Europe, establishing themselves as true road warriors.Little Mike's success led to a 1992 follow-up release entitled Payday. The material is once again all original and draws upon Mike's blue-collar upbringing and experience. Says Little Mike, "It's the best thing I've ever done. Best writing, best playing, and best producing. I think I'm finally getting the hang of this." LITTLE MIKE AND THE TORNADOES

LISA BIALES "BELLE OF THE BLUES"

Lisa Biales - “Belle of the Blues”. Lisa Biales’ musical roots run deep. Her love and appreciation of singing came at an early age as she grew up in a musical family. Lisa started playing the guitar at the age of eleven, at age thirteen she was playing for church services, and when Lisa was seventeen, she was singing Jazz Standards in her parents Dixieland Band.In 2003, Lisa earned a Masters Degree in Theater from Ohio University, her professors were encouraging her to continue with a PhD. After much soul searching, Lisa decided she had gone far enough in academia and decided to quit her day job to give her undivided attention to the music that had been calling her for so many years. In 2006, Lisa turned her focus to songwriting and recording. She released an album of original music entitled, "Chasing Away The Blues" which was produced with Grammy Nominated Celeste Friedman. MELINDA "WITNESS"

From an old steel mill city once described as “hell with the lid off” comes a singer/songwriter with red-hot fire in her soul. Melinda is her name, and this Pittsburgh-born artist could well be described as the belle of blues-infused rock. She’s been raising roofs for years, from Boston to Los Angeles, with her four alarm voice and earthy stage presence. No gimmicks, no girl-pop. Just full-tilt rock and roll.Melinda is one of those rare artists who found their calling at a young age. She picked up an electric guitar at 13 and began soaking up the sounds and styles that would influence her singing and inspire her writing: the desperate blues wail of Etta James, the swampy growl of Janis Joplin, the searing guitar licks of Jimi Hendrix, the raw intensity of The Rolling Stones.By 15 she was sharing the stage with notable Pittsburgh musicians who recognized her inborn passion for rock and blues music. She paid her dues in every conceivable venue – from ballrooms to ballparks to brick alley bars – honing her skills and developing a style all her own.The toil and sweat paid off. Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music awarded her the World Tour Scholarship, as well as the Aerosmith Endowment Award for outstanding achievement in music. She went on to co-found a Boston-area all-girl rock band, Mass Ave, that wowed audiences and piqued the interest of major record labels. But Melinda knew she was destined to make her mark as a solo artist. She keeps on rolling – on stages and studios around the country – and is poised to become a bona fide presence in the rock world. Her 2010 EP “Don’t Be Sweet” received favorable reviews and considerable air play. She wrote or co-wrote four of the disc’s five songs, collaborating with Grammy Award winning singer, guitarist, producer Kevin Bowe on “The Hard Way.” Billboard’s World Song Contest recognized her for the EP’s title track. Next up is a full length CD, scheduled for release in early 2014. MELINDA

NICK MOSS BAND "TIME AIN'T FREE"

Nick Moss and his band have been featured performers at blues festivals across the globe but it's at home in Chicago – the capital city of the blues – where he and his band get the ultimate stamp of approval from one Hall of Famer and blues icon Buddy Guy. Music fans the world over come to his famous club where they'll often find Moss playing that prestigious stage, booked by the icon himself because "Nick is a favorite at my club, Legends. He always works hard to please the audience." Other luminaries are equally effusive in their praise, rare in the competitive world of guitar gods, as none other than former Roomful of Blues bandleader and distinguished solo artist Ronnie Earl declares "Nick Moss is my favorite guitarist," high praise from one of the greatest practitioners of the instrument. It's that ability to please, entertain, and amaze audiences with his staggering guitar skills that make the 16-time Blues Music Award nominee one of the top draws on the blues circuit and most exciting, dynamic performers working today. Noted author and historian Bill Dahl has praised Nick's "mastery of the classic Chicago sound" and declared him "a prolific songwriter, and the most exciting blues guitarist we have around here." That's quite an accolade from a man who has interviewed icons like Bo Diddley, written liner notes and overseen massive retrospectives of giants like Freddie King and Sam Phillips' historic Sun Records label, and written a respected book about the history of Motown.Nick Moss demonstrates his mastery of the classic Chicago sound and so much more onstage — and has also been recognized by the International Songwriting Competition for his ability to add amazing new songs to the venerable blues canon. His creativity, which has advanced his sound to incorporate new styles and ideas, has made an impression on blues master Jimmy Thackery, who says, "Nick is at it again, pushing the evolution of his music, stylistically as well as sonically." MAMMAL HANDS "ANIMALIA"

Mammal Hands are a trio of like-minded musicians: Nick Smart piano, Jesse Barrett drums and percussion, and Jordan Smart saxophones. Drawing on influences from Steve Reich to Bonobo and Pharoah Sanders to The Cinematic Orchestra, alongside elements of North Indian and African music, they produce their own beautiful, inimitable music – at times wistful and melancholic and others raucous and catchy. They evoke a range of moods, from delicate and subtle to explosive and frantic, blending thoughtful compositions with spontaneity and interplay. On the road they have been wooing audiences from the Norwich Arts Centre to Mostly Jazz Festival Birmingham, King’s Place London, Band On The Wall Manchester and most recently Love Supreme Festival Glynde. Indeed it was at Mostly Jazz that the band were heard by Gondwana Records recording artists GoGo Penguin’s bassist Nick Blacka, who liking the band’s unique sound brought them to the attention of label boss Matthew Halsall, who immediately signed them to the label and has now produced their sublime debut album, Animalia, which is released on 15th September. Mammal Hands met in April 2012, while busking in Norwich. They gelled quickly, drawn to each other’s open approach to music making. The brothers Nick and Jordan were already playing together as an electronica duo but with drummer Jesse joining the band they developed a distinctive sound drawing on their love of electronic, contemporary classical, world and jazz music. Drummer Jesse’s knowledge and understanding of Indian Classical music brings a unique/distinctive approach to the rhythmic framework of the band’s tunes. His disciplined study with tabla maestro Sirishkumar has allowed him to develop the ability to explore intricate and complex rhythmic patterns and the freedom to explore time signatures and rhythmic patterns less commonly heard in the western world. Jordan brings a love of DJ culture as well as the influence of Pharoah Sanders to his playing whilst pianist Nick brings a knowledge of classical Jazz harmonies but also a deep interest in the minimalist composers (Terry Riley, Steve Reich) which has influenced his compositional approach, striving to create hypnotic, rhythmic patterns that can provide a foundation for Jordan and Jesse to build on. It is this unique combination of influences and their unusual baseless line-up that makes Mammal Hands’ sound so distinctive. MAMMAL HANDS

GILES COREY'S "STONED SOUL"

Giles grew up in Trumbull, CT and came to Chicago in 1993. His first gig was with Buddy Scott and the Rib Tips (who is the grandfather of the bass player on this album, Joewaun Scott-- he was 15 and Giles was 18 when they first met. Do the math if you must). Giles played every weekend at Lee's Unleaded Blues for over a year, honing his craft. Lee's Unleaded is now rather famous, as it is sadly the only functioning blues club left on the South Side of Chicago. After graduating the University of Chicago in 1997, Giles joined Billy Branch and the Sons of Blues. This was a pivotal gig for the young guitar player, and his first exposure to national and international touring. In addition, Giles played some shows and recorded with Syl Johnson and Buddy Miles at this time. In 2001 Giles was hired by his long-time guitar hero, Otis Rush, to play in his band. Giles toured with Otis Rush until the elder guitarist's 2004 stroke sadly made live performances impossible. In 2001 Giles Corey, along with drummer Rick King and pianist Marty Sammon (both on this session) founded the band Lubriphonic. Marty soon left to join Buddy Guy's band, but Giles and Rick managed to release 4 studio albums, and one live album. Giles was the singer and songwriter for the band. Lubriphonic's relentless tour schedule and energetic work ethic honed the skills of an inexperienced songwriter and front man. As Giles developed as a songwriter, he sought more of the truth he found in roots and blues music. Lubriphonic had been a fantastic live band with infectious rythms and catchy horn lines. However, Giles longed to try other ideas, ones that did not fit within the rubrick of Lubriphonic. When Lubriphonic stopped touring in 2011, the seed was planted for a new project. GILES COREY'S

PETE ROTH BAND "CIRCUS IN THE SKY"

Writing and performing music was something that always seemed a natural progression to me. Ever since the early beginning of my musical journey at age 11 when I picked up the guitar for the first time.I was very lucky to be able to perform publicly from a very early age on by being involved in the school’s band led in a passionate way by Miss Kern, a brilliant piano player in her own right. Many wrong notes later and at least 10 bands later I have found myself backing a major artist at a prime time television show "Hitparade der Volksmusik". I took this as an incentive to take music to the next level and moved to Guildford 30 minutes south of London to study popular music and Jazz under the brilliant Stefan Redtenbacher. It was here where my love for variety in music such as Jazz and Latin got fed with the right ingredients. I found myself in a very vibrant environment and started gigging almost immediately. It was in this scene where I was allowed to be part of projects which put me on an inevitable path. Just after my first studio recording for Radio Capitol FM. I started as musical director on a private Television show called "Virtuoso Song Contest". An X-Factor type of idea. The show unfortunately never got off the ground. If it was because of me, many apologies, I don't hope so. On the back of this I was offered a contract to go on a cruise ship and ended up 6 months on and off and seeing nearly the entire world from Southampton to Vietnam. It was from then on when things really started to pick up and I had a run of performing with some of England’s most prestigious Jazz and Classical musicians. There were unforgettable moments when I was asked to play with the London Gala Orchestra under the Musical Direction of the brilliant Steve Bell. I turned up at the gig with a newly bought acoustic nylon string guitar, my pride and joy, for 500 pounds. I got it out of the case and showed it proudly around thinking this must be the best thing those guys have ever seen. The violin player next to me then got her violin out of the case which was a 250.000 pound instrument. I sat quietly in a corner for the rest of the evening:-).  There were many others such as Maria Friedmann a protégé of Stephen Sondheim and Michel Legrand, Teatro a platinum selling vocal group, the mad Irish Sam Flynne who made his name as piano player for the Eurhythmics, Roachford and Stevie Wonder or the unforgettable Rosemarie Squires best known for singing with Les Paul and the magic Brian Dee who made his name Mding Miles Davies. In the five years of my professional life I had the luck to play in some of the best venues in Europe such as the Purcell Room in the Royal Festival Hall being on the same bill with one of my heroes John Schofield. All in all there are too many to name. PETE ROTH BAND

THE PATRIK JANSSON BAND "HERE WE ARE"

Patrik Jansson Band was formed in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden in late 2007. After playing drums in various blues bands and jazz combos, hard-rock and metal acts for several years, Patrik decided it was time for another challenge. He picked up the guitar and started playing and singing in hopes of developing as a songwriter and a musician. “I’ve always loved to learn new things” he says. With a passion for heavy Texas blues and with a new mission in life he started looking for musicians to play with. “I had a pretty clear idea of what I was looking for” he says, “I wanted to play blues with a more modern approach. Blues is supposed to feel fresh and alive, it’s a most vital music in my opinion. In short I wanted to play the kind of music that I would like to hear myself and that I think a lot of other people would like and appreciate”. In the beginning of 2011 PJB released their self-titled critically acclaimed debut album on the Sneaky Foot Records label. The music could best be described as a mix of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter, Buddy Guy, Freddie King and Joe Bonamassa, to name a few of the influences. After some line-up changes it was time to start writing songs for the follow up to the debut album and in late 2013 the band entered the studio to record “Here We Are” their second full length album, an album full of heavy, funky, groovy blues with a focus on strong melodies and great songwriting. With guest appearances from Mikael Fall (Harmonica world champion 2013) and the great Swedish female blues singer Lisa Lystam, the record is full of great songs and great performances. A lot has happened since the start in 2007 and since the first record, and it becomes even clearer when you listen to the new record. It’s a heavier, darker and more mature band you'll be hearing. "I put a lot of time and effort into making this record and I really try to make my music mean something, I try to write songs that make you feel something, songs that matter and I believe we're gotten closer to that goal with the new record and I think you will hear it when you listen to it. I hope you enjoy it”. THE PATRIK JANSSON BAND

DEE DANIELS "INTIMATE CONVERSATIONS"

Whether accompanying her self at the piano, fronting a trio, big band or symphony, Dee Daniels' musical career is as varied as her four-octave vocal range is thrilling. She is a unique talent who transcends musical borders when she brings her jazz styling, infused with gospel and blues flavoring, to the stage. One critic says, "Daniels' voice has a hypnotic quality, delivering an impressive range that gives the romantic songs and verse of 50 years ago new life and raw emotion."Though Dee has a B.A. Degree in Art Education and taught high school art for a year in Seattle, she quickly realized that her true calling was music. Her vocal style was born in her stepfather's church choir in Oakland, California, refined through the R&B era, polished during a five-year stay in The Netherlands and Belgium from 1982 to 1987, and brought to full fruition upon her return to North America. During those years to the present, she has performed and recorded with many 'Legends of Jazz' including Toots Thielemans, Houston Person, Clark Terry, Lionel Hampton, Ed Thigpen, Monty Alexander, John Clayton, and Jeff Hamilton, Hank Jones, Bill Charlap, and Russell Malone – to mention a few.Dee's international career includes performances in twelve African countries, Australia, South America, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Japan, throughout North America, and many countries within Europe. Career highlights include Dee being named Artistic Director, in September 2011, of the Frank DeMiero Jazz Festival - a camp dedicated to Jazz Vocals with around 60 participating schools; a nomination for Atlanta Theater’s 2010 Suzi Bass Award; the 2009 receipt of an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Fine Arts and 2008 President’s Award, both from Capilano University; 2003 recipient of the prestigious Commemorative Medal for the Golden Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and induction into the University of Montana’s School of Fine Arts Hall of Honor as well as a 1997 University of Montana Distinguished Alumni Award; a 2002 inductee into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame with a plaque installed on Vancouver's Granville Street Walk of Fame; and a command performance for the King and Queen of Belgium’s 25th Wedding Anniversary. Sharing the stage while singing the blues with the late Sarah Vaughan, and singing gospel and blues with the late Joe Williams remains at the top of her list! DEE DANIELS

MISSY ANDERSEN "IN THE MOMENT"

Born in Detroit, Michigan and raised in Queens, New York, Missy’s first real memory of singing is at age six. Her mother entered Missy in a child talent contest and everyday she practiced with her after school. It was her favorite thing to do. For some reason the contest was cancelled and her afternoon practice sessions stopped, but Missy was hooked from then on. “Singing would always be my friend and I would turn to it whenever I needed to express something I couldn’t find the words to say,” says Missy. Her parents had an extensive music collection that included lots of soul, R&B, blues, jazz, and gospel. Her favorite songs were always the ones that told a story. It wasn’t always the most popular song on the album, but she would play them over and over and over. She listened to Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, The Staple Singers, Teddy Pendergrass and a host of others. And like many before her, Missy mimicked other singers until she found her own voice. Later she would discover Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughn, and Billie Holiday and that eventually lead her to O.V. Wright, Bobby Bland, Little Milton, James Carr, Ray Charles, Ann Peebles, and Irma Thomas.Although singing is her love, she had her first stab at the music business while in her teens with the rap single, “Be For Real” under the moniker, Denyce "Flip" Isaac. Although the record’s success was small, it still led to her being the opening act for Cissy Houston in a string of club dates. It wasn’t long before Missy turned back to singing, honing her skills fronting local bands as well as doing studio sessions as a background vocalist. Moving to San Diego, California, she met local blues man, Earl Thomas in the late 90’s. It was then that she became one of the original Juke Joint Jezebelles, a gospel, blues, and soul quartet, who provided backup vocals for Earl’s stage show. She played and toured with Earl for several years hitting festivals and venues in the U.S. and Europe. Earl Thomas and the Jezebelles shared the stage with Ray Charles, B.B. King, Robert Cray, John Hammond, Keb’ Mo’, Kenny Neal, and The Meters. MISSY ANDERSEN

CHRISTOS ANESTOPOULOS "WISH YOU COULD STAY"

Christos Anestopoulos born in Patras,Greece in 1971.
He study classic guitar and he got diploma on the instrument.
He study electric guitar and he got lessons and clinics from many great jazz guitarist. He is a teacher of Guitar. He has compose music for dance and theater, movies and he release two albums with his music``swinging over the surfaces`` and ``wish you could stay``
There’s no avoiding the influence of Bill Frisell on this recording. And considering that fellow-guitarist Anestopoulos names two separate tracks “Friselland” indicates he’s fully invested in Frisell’s sound as both musician and fan. As a huge Frisell fan, this album totally floated my boat. There are tracks that sound eminently like Frisell pieces. There are tracks that sound nothing like Frisell pieces, but the use of electronics and looping and effects, and a strangely ominous jazz-folk hybrid put it smack dab in the middle of Frisell territory. A couple tracks incorporate some elements of Anestopoulos’ native Greece, and nothing about that breaks the album’s cohesion. Kind of jazz, kind of folk, kind of rock, all of them but none… music with personality and dramatic expressionism. Not just for fans of Frisell. GENERATION BLUES EXPERIENCE "PRIVATE ANGEL"

Generation Blues Experience was co-founded by dedicated 12-year old singer and guitar virtuoso Ray Goren in 2012 in South Central L.A. together with veteran blues septuagenarian, Sammy Lee, and octogenarian, Jamie Powell. A true product of his “generation,” Goren learned from YouTube videos of the legends and was playing blues guitar in gigs before the age of 10. But together with Powell and Lee the band has busted age and musical barriers, resulting in landmark recordings of blues power.Jamie Bluesboy Powell is an 80 year-old guitar player with an unforgettable blues shouting vocal style, who has been playing the local blues scene in South Central LA for years. His friend, harmonicist Sammy Lee. is well known in Watts for the lonely train whistle sounds of his harp as he sways with the relentless shuffle beat of his Louisiana blues upbringing. Known to the locals at Bell’s Blues Workshop as the Odd Couple, their conversations take on a Jack Lemmon/Walter Matthau quality making much ado about nothing, and having fun doing it!Ray Goren is a 14-year old musician, who began as a jazz pianist but migrated to the blues guitar at about 8 years old. He’s acquired quite a reputation despite his tender age, playing on opening night at the Main Stage of the Chicago Blues Festival, at Doheny Blues Festival and walking onstage with Buddy Guy at the Greek Theatre. Playing at the NAMM conventions, he draws crowds of seasoned musicians. Recently Ray has recorded an EP of his original music which was produced by Eddie Kramer (Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Kiss) and sits in on gigs with Robbie Krieger of the Doors. These three came together two years ago when a well-meaning fan asked Ray’s father if he’d like to meet some of the old men from Watts, who really knew how to play the blues – the Real Deal. And that’s how they first came to meet at Bell’s Blues Workshop – a residential juke joint in South Central LA (an old drummer’s converted garage) that hosts a blues jam every Sunday evening. Far from the festival and club scenes Ray found a bustling sub-culture where the soul food is hot off the stove, the laughter is loud and pure blues is in the air. When the three next stepped onto the stage at a blues jam in a fashionable Burbank club, magic was in the air. Electricity filled the room and everyone saw the torch being passed from one generation to another. Generation Blues Experience was born. The three of them bonded and became best of friends with age, color and lifestyle boundaries all blurred. Blues became their language, They landed a gig opening at the Golden State Theatre in Monterrey, California for B.B. King in early 2013. “A band came out on stage to open for the legend, B.B. King, and this kid – 12 years old – comes out to front on lead guitar and vocals. What was more surprising is the gifts that this musician possesses. He is a real phenomenon, and you sit there not believing what you are seeing and hearing…. It was really one of the most unbelievable moments I’ve experienced at any concert.” Rock Subculture. With two albums already recorded - the first within 2 weeks of the formation of the band and the second recorded live at their residency gig at Lucy’s 51 in Toluca Lake - they decided it was time to create their own music. Ray began writing songs – writing one specifically for Jamie. Sammy wrote about his home state’s troubles with Hurricane Katrina, and other band members wrote songs that Ray modified with his own style while staying true to the blues shuffles and slow blues melodies. These collaborations have resulted in “Private Angel” released August 2014. GENERATION BLUES EXPERIENCE
