do álbum.
O BARDO E O BANJO

MAMMAL HANDS "ANIMALIA"
Mammal Hands are a trio of like-minded musicians: Nick Smart piano,
Jesse Barrett drums and percussion, and Jordan Smart saxophones. Drawing
on influences from Steve Reich to Bonobo and Pharoah Sanders to The
Cinematic Orchestra, alongside elements of North Indian and African
music, they produce their own beautiful, inimitable music – at times
wistful and melancholic and others raucous and catchy. They evoke a
range of moods, from delicate and subtle to explosive and frantic,
blending thoughtful compositions with spontaneity and interplay. On the
road they have been wooing audiences from the Norwich Arts Centre to
Mostly Jazz Festival Birmingham, King’s Place London, Band On The Wall
Manchester and most recently Love Supreme Festival Glynde. Indeed it was
at Mostly Jazz that the band were heard by Gondwana Records recording
artists GoGo Penguin’s bassist Nick Blacka, who liking the band’s unique
sound brought them to the attention of label boss Matthew Halsall, who
immediately signed them to the label and has now produced their sublime
debut album, Animalia, which is released on 15th September.
Mammal Hands met in April 2012, while busking in Norwich. They gelled
quickly, drawn to each other’s open approach to music making. The
brothers Nick and Jordan were already playing together as an electronica
duo but with drummer Jesse joining the band they developed a
distinctive sound drawing on their love of electronic, contemporary
classical, world and jazz music. Drummer Jesse’s knowledge and
understanding of Indian Classical music brings a unique/distinctive
approach to the rhythmic framework of the band’s tunes. His disciplined
study with tabla maestro Sirishkumar has allowed him to develop the
ability to explore intricate and complex rhythmic patterns and the
freedom to explore time signatures and rhythmic patterns less commonly
heard in the western world. Jordan brings a love of DJ culture as well
as the influence of Pharoah Sanders to his playing whilst pianist Nick
brings a knowledge of classical Jazz harmonies but also a deep interest
in the minimalist composers (Terry Riley, Steve Reich) which has
influenced his compositional approach, striving to create hypnotic,
rhythmic patterns that can provide a foundation for Jordan and Jesse to
build on. It is this unique combination of influences and their unusual
baseless line-up that makes Mammal Hands’ sound so distinctive.

MATTHEW HALSALL & THE GONDWANA ORCHESTRA "WHEN THE WORLD WAS ONE"
Manchester based, DJ, bandleader and trumpeter Matthew Halsall is one of
the UK’s brightest talents. A gifted trumpeter with a beautiful,
expressive tone, his music draws on his love of the transcendental,
spiritual and modal jazz of Alice and John Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders,
as well as the glories of ‘60s British jazz. His albums ‘Sending My
Love’, ‘Colour Yes’, 'On The Go', 'Fletcher Moss Park' and 'When The
World Was One' released on his own Gondwana label have won him a legion
of fans across the world and acclaim from the likes of Gilles Peterson,
Jamie Cullum and Radio 3’s Late Junction, MOJO, BBC Music Magazine and
even BBC 6 Music.Your album personnel: Matthew Halsall (trumpet), Nat Birchall (tenor sax), Lisa Mallett (flute), Keiko Kitamura (koto), Rachael Gladwin (harp), Taz Modi (piano), Gavin Barras (bass), and Luke Flowers (drums). Mr Halsall never fails to impress. This is a tour de force of
understated but expressive brass work. Gondwana has all the hallmarks of
the spiritual jazz label for the now generation.

PHIL CODY "CODY SINGS ZEVON"
Cincinnati-born Phil Cody, a longtime California resident, produces a
smart, raw folk-rock blend that calls to mind Peter Case and Pete Droge.
He released his debut album, The Sons of Intemperance Offering, in 1996
on Interscope Records. Most of the project was recorded live in the
studio. In the years after its release, he hit the road, sharing the
stage with artists such as Steve Earle, Golden Smog, Warren Zevon, and
Jimmie Dale Gilmore. Cody was still on Interscope when he made 2000's
Big Slow Mover, a compelling folk-rock/country amalgam full of sonic
touches such as funk grooves and loops. It was co-produced by Ethan
Johns and the Wallflowers' Rami Jaffe and featured guest appearances by
Joe Henry and Emmylou Harris (on a great version of Townes Van Zandt's
"If I Needed You"). However, the growing, changing label passed on it;
so armed with a new Mac computer and a strong unreleased album, Cody
went D.I.Y., starting his own label, Tiny Head Records. PHIL CODY

MONICA Mc INTYRE "IT SOON COME"
Artist, Cellist, Singer, Lyricist, Community Activist and Healer;
these are a few titles which could be used to describe Monica McIntyre.
As a musician Monica weaves a beautiful tapestry of colors and sounds so
vivid and unique that one genre simply cannot cover it all. She
seamlessly blends: Blues, Soul, Classical, Jazz, Reggae and Middle
Eastern sounds with the unique cello techniques of: slapping, plucking
and strumming, into an unforgettable musical landscape.
Seeing her perform onstage is an enthralling experience and before you know it you'll be swaying or stomping your feet alongside the mesmerizing sounds of her cello. The meticulous storytelling, metaphor and word play that dominate her lyrics cause her songs to be seen and heard as succinct novellas. Her voice, with it's smoky texture and emotional quality, has left audiences crying, dancing, laughing and testifying. So who is Monica McIntyre? She is equal parts Jamaican metaphor-laden mother and read-the-dictionary-for-fun father; a perfect writers combination. Originally from Hyattsville, MD, she began her cello career in classical studies; honing her craft through private lessons and orchestral ensembles with the District of Columbia Youth Orchestra (DCYO). After graduating from Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, MD, Monica migrated to Philadelphia, PA to study Fashion Design at Drexel University. In 1999 she earned a BA from the Nesbitt College of Design Arts.Living in the city of Brotherly Love, where she was immersed in: Funk, Soul, R & B, Jazz, and World Music; brought her back to her first love, music.
ERIC McGRATH "LITTLE RIPPLES"
