Tradotto dall'inglese-Hoven Droven è una band folk rock svedese fondata nel 1989. Sono specializzati in arrangiamenti strumentali e hard rock di vecchie melodie folk svedesi. La traduzione inglese più vicina alla frase Jamtish "Hoven Droven" è "helter skelter" o "qualunque cosa". Band folk-rock svedese Hoven Droven, vecchia di tre decenni, da quando li ho ascoltati per la prima volta nel 1998 negli album Nordic Sampler dell'etichetta discografica Northside. Avevo perso il contatto con loro, ma sono felice di sentire che sono ancora insieme e portano la tradizione della musica popolare svedese con i loro colpi di scena interpretativi contemporanei, rock e chiassosi. BEN AYLON "XALAM"

Nel gennaio 2020, il virtuoso della batteria Ben Aylon ha ottenuto il riconoscimento nazionale in Senegal dopo essere apparso in famosi programmi TV senegalesi e aver eseguito i suoi affascinanti concerti da solista nella capitale del paese Dakar. North American singer/songwriter and guitarist Sally Station created Xumapaz as a melting pot for her own musical experiences and those of the musicians she has collaborated with in the US, Colombia, France and the UK. Holly Burke has a Bachelor's Degree in Music and Theatre and a teaching credential from Cambridge University. Holly's credits include an International Broadcast Award from the Hollywood Radio and Television Society. She has performed on CBC TV and radio, NPR, CITR and at the San Diego Jazz Festival and the Vancouver Du Maurier Jazz Festival. She has many VO and TV credits including Special Unit 2, Cold Squad V1, The Dead Zone, and It's a Girl Thing, with Mia Farrow. Holly has recorded on over twenty five projects including working with Terry and Scott Jacks, Linton Garner and Clark Burroughs. Holly has recently released her own CD "Nature Girl" which was conceived during a 6 month sojurn in the Costa Rican rainforest where she gained a new appreciation for nature and all its wonders. KEN HUSBANDS TRIO "KEEPIN' IT GOING"

Keepin’ It Going is Ken Husbands’ third release as a leader and the second with this group, featuring Aaron Germain on bass and Otto Huber on drums. It moves fluidly from the funk inflected opening track to the fast samba of the closer, passing through swing, odd metered grooves, African influences and out-and-out fusion on the way. This group has been working together in the San Francisco Bay area for several years and they have developed a cohesive ensemble approach. The original compositions are formally rigorous while leaving room for each of the musicians to display team-oriented virtuosity. Contemporary influences such as John Scofield and Wayne Krantz can be heard in Husbands’ guitar playing, and the title track evokes the world fusion of Weather Report, but this trio has its own sound and compositional approach that incorporates a wide range of musical styles, integrating odd time signatures and complex harmonies seamlessly into energetic grooves. NAOMI WACHIRA "NAOMI WACHIRA"

There’s no doubt that there’s a better future in store for Naomi, especially after her great breakout year in 2013. Named the Best Folk Singer in Seattle by alt publication Seattle Weekly and featured on their cover, Naomi became the toast of the town, which in turn led to a friendship with the much-loved indie songwriter Damien Jurado, who came onboard to produce this album. Other key collaborators that Naomi brought in, renowned Seattle bassist Evan Flory-Barnes, cellist Natalie Hall (Macklemore), drummer Darren Reynolds (Patrick & The Locomotive), and Latin percussionist Lalo Bello, all brought their own ideas to the accompaniment, guided by Jurado’s desire to keep the music as vibrantly alive as possible. The result is Naomi Wachira’s debut full-length, a portrait of a Kenyan artist at home in the Pacific Northwestern United States. When you listen to Naomi’s songs, you’ll hear the lifelong influence of two powerful, groundbreaking female songwriters: Miriam Makeba and Tracy Chapman. Makeba became one of the biggest stars on the continent through her socially aware songwriting, something she shared closely with American songwriter Tracy Chapman. Chapman was a voice for social change as well, but Naomi loved her positive idealism, a concept that informs all the songs on Naomi’s album. Makeba’s also a personal icon for Naomi, who cites “the way she carried herself, her grace and character,” as influencers. “She was able to maintain her integrity as an African. She didn’t need to change who she was to fit with Western audiences.” That’s why you won’t hear any stereotypical African music on Naomi’s debut. She’s making music inspired both by the music she discovered in America and the music she grew up with in Kenya, not a Western conception of how African music should sound. The daughter of a Kijabe pastor, Naomi joined the traveling family band at five years old, spreading the good word through gospel song. This explains the beautiful harmonies on her album, for as she says “In my family everyone sang and everyone knew their part. Harmony was second nature for us.” Larger African concepts also play a part in Naomi’s music, like the Zulu idea of Ubuntu. This concept means “I am because we are,” and it’s a community-based worldview that focuses on caring for each other.

CHARLIE DENNARD "FROM BRAZIL TO NEW ORLEANS"

Charlie Dennard has arranged a collection of Brazilian songs for an eclectic band of New Orleans jazz musicians to create a unique sound — a blend of New Orleans and Brazilian jazz that defies category. New Orleans second-line rhythms mix with boogaloo. Vibrant brass band horns mix with Latin percussion. Mellifluous contemporary jazz piano mixes with cello. And ambient electronica mixes with an improvisational jazz quartet and an angelic, classic female Brazilian voice. The result is truly an album – a diverse set of Brazilian folk songs and contemporary Brazilian compositions crafted into a coherent whole thanks to Dennard’s vision and a stellar group of players from the New Orleans jazz scene.Although truly unique, the recording is hardly contrived. Dennard’s arrangements and versatility on the keyboard give the album a natural and organic feel. “From Brazil to New Orleans” takes the listener on a journey that pays tribute to several lesser-known Brazilian composers and places them firmly on the map in multi-cultural New Orleans. The album underscores the Crescent City’s essential character as an Afro-Caribbean port city. And the album does something exceedingly rare: It creates, in some cases, something akin to a new genre. PHATFUNK CLIQUE "PHAT JAZZ"

Several venues have experienced the funk/jazz sounds of Da Phatfunk Clique. In September of 1998, violinist Darrell “D-Funk” Looney began collaborating with several musicians on what would be the first release in 1999, Pandemic Love. The sound is unique as the violin is the lead instrument. Da Phatfunk Clique was formed as a band by January of 2000, utilizing local talent in support of the album release. Out of this effort came development of a unique sound, both jazzy and funky, that has been described as an amalgamation of jazz from Mahavishnu Orchestra and funk ambience of George Clinton's P-Funk. True to form, these are among the group's influences as are artists such as Jean Luc Ponty, Herbie Hancock, George Duke and Noel Pointer. Da Phatfunk Clique has morphed into a musical collaborative concept with varying members, still under the direction of violinist Darrell Looney.The current release entitled “Phat Jazz” builds upon the concept of funky jazz to elevate the mood and is our 4th CD! Madrid born vocalist and composer Rebeca Vallejo is a most versatile and innovative performer. Known for combining her ancestral Flamenco roots, her deep love and understanding of Brazilian music, with the language of Jazz, Rebeca Vallejo deftly weaves all these elements into a sound that is truly unique. Equal parts nomad and musician, Rebeca Vallejo’s life has led her across several continents and infused her music with an awareness and understanding of a multitude of cultures. Born into a family of singers in Madrid, Spain, Rebeca was immediately immersed in the rich musical language of Flamenco, learning at the feet of her grandfather, himself a Flamenco singer.Beginning her public performances at the age of four, the musical journey that started in an urban neighborhood of Madrid eventually took Ms. Vallejo to Great Britain, where she developed a deep passion for Jazz. Arriving in New York in 2000, Rebeca began collaborating and performing with the most sought after musicians of the Latin-Jazz scene. Through this exposure, she uncovered the emotional beauty and rhythmic complexity of Brazilian music. It was there that she discovered the third corner of a musical triangle that, together with Jazz and Flamenco, would shape her musical foundation. In addition to being an acclaimed performer, Rebeca Vallejo is the creator and bandleader of the musical projects EuroLatinJazz and EuroLatinFunk, an accomplished composer/Jazz arranger (among her composition projects are 300 children songs written for the national franchise “The Language Workshop”) and for two years she was the main vocalist of the Flamenco Dance Company “Día Flamenco”.Since 2012 Rebeca Vallejo has been an active performing member of the Brooklyn Conservatory Chorale. In 2009 Rebeca Vallejo was granted a scholarship to the prestigious Flamenco institution Cristina Heeren in Seville, Spain, where she focused on the study of Flamenco repertoire and Flamenco singing techniques. During the year of 2012 Rebeca Vallejo served as the director of SMINYC, a collective of musicians from Spain residing in New York, sponsored by the Spanish Cultural institution Centro Español. The mission statement of SMINYC was to support and promote musicians from Spain in New York by producing monthly events where projects of all musical genres are showcased. Through the success of the events organized by SMINYC, Rebeca Vallejo nurtured a lasting relationship with the Spanish Embassy in Washington and Spanish Consulate in NY (which became official sponsors of all her musical presentations) as well as with the world-wide prestigious cultural institution of Instituto Cervantes Among Rebeca Vallejo’s musical accomplishments are numerous performances in renowned events (Jazz Aspen Gala accompanied by Chucho Valdes’s band, Havana, Cuba), festivals (Gentse Feesten, Gent, Belgium), and venues such as the Modern Art Museum in Salvador, BRAZIL, The Kennedy Center (Washington), Carnegie Hall (with the NY Youth Orchestra, NY), and the United States Capitol (accompanying Gospel Grammy award winners Yolanda Adams and Dorinda Clark at the “Unveiling of Sojourner Truth’s bust”).Rebeca is currently promoting and touring her third studio album entitled “Azúcar Canela” The album is being brought to life under the direction of Grammy Award Winning producer John Seymour (Santana, U2, Dave Matthews Band). “Azúcar, Canela” develops an interestingly raw multi-cultural “concept trio” of piano–drums/percussion– voice. Accompanied by George Dulin (Kenny Werner, Chris Potter, John Scofield) at the piano, and David Silliman (Cassandra Wilson, Edmar Castañeda, Al DiMeola) playing drums/ percussion, this trio delivers a powerful and poignant live performance experience.
