O BARDO E O BANJO "HOMEPATH"

"Homepath" é o primeiro álbum do Bardo e o Banjo, e reúne os singles que foram lançados em seus 2 EP's anteriores ("Synergy" 2013, "Lakeside" 2014) em um trabalho que explora a fundo a sonoridade rústica que a banda veio aprimorando ao longo de seus quase 3 anos de existência. Nesse primeiro álbum, Wagner Creoruska Junior (músico, compositor) e o produtor Cesar Benzoni exploram elementos diferentes, além dos já convencionalmente usados pelo Bardo e o Banjo: sons de colheres, tin whistle, gaita e até sapateado irlandês fazem participações nas faixas do álbum. A junção de instrumentos novos com a música rústica do grupo fazem de "Homepath" um álbum que mostra todas as facetas da música do Bardo e o Banjo, levando o ouvinte a uma experiência completa no universo da música tradicional/folk e do bluegrass. IRENE KELLEY "PENNSYLVANIA COAL"

We call a collection of songs an "album," and never has the term been more apt than in Irene Kelley's new bluegrass powerhouse, "Pennsylvania Coal." It's like leafing through the generations of a family photo album, while Kelley lovingly fills in the details and fleshes out the characters.One photo is literal. On the back cover is a 100-year-old shot taken at the mouth of the Crabtree, Pennsylvania coalmine, and among the miners is Kelley's grandfather. Her title song is both centerpiece and fountainhead for the stories that follow. From this first-generation American tale of hardship and struggle comes the strength, hope and humility shown in the lives of succeeding generations.Kelley goes "back to her ('grass) roots" on this project. A bluegrass album with top bluegrass players has been on her "bucket list" since her days singing at the Bean Blossom and Clinch Mountain festivals in the 1980s. With seven-time Grammy winner (and longtime Ricky Skaggs bassist) Mark Fain producing, legendary pickers such as Stuart Duncan and Bryan Sutton, and a cast of singers including Rhonda Vincent, Claire Lynch and Trisha Yearwood, that dream has come true in a very big way.Not all the contributors are big names, though. Not yet anyway. Kelley's talented daughters Justyna and Sara Jean are all over "Pennsylvania Coal" as singers and co-writers, reinforcing family ties in songs where they are often enough part of the story.Kelley herself had an early start. At 19 she took offense to fellow 'grassers singing the praises of Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, etc. and took it on herself to write a song defending the rural beauty of her native state. "Pennsylvania Is My Home" opened many doors, from a PBS documentary to a grassroots campaign for a Pennsylvania State Song senate bill, and eventually to Nashville, where she lives today. GOOD DICTION "THE QUEEN'S ENGLISH"

Local husband and wife folk blues duo Good Diction is a great example of the kind of group that reaffirms my commitment to independent music and provides an ever welcome source of inspiration.The key to the blues (or any style really) is authenticity. Frontman Peter Bodurtha’s lyrics have strong mythical and literary qualities to them. At the same time, songs like If I Were a British Man or I Just Want to Talk display an earnest sense of wit and cleverness that make their stories personal.Much like Meg White (and I mean that in the best way possible), Percussionist Julie Bodurtha’s minimalist approach adds a certain amount innocence and playfulness to the music that really ropes the listener in and highlights the nuances.  As the lengthy stomp-fest 1789 W Broadway Ave Blues demonstrates, all of the intangibles are present and Good Diction successfully accomplishes what all good blues bands must do: trick you into not realizing your hearing the blues. CHARLIE FAYE "YOU WERE FINE, YOU WEREN'T EVEN LONELY

Sometimes, it takes a breakup to make a great album. Just ask Charlie Faye, who split up with her longtime partner, Will Sexton, during the creation of her latest record. Soldiering forward while their relationship crumbled, the two co-wrote most of the album together, taking the opportunity to put into music the things they couldn’t put into words.It’s not the happiest album you’ll hear this summer, but You Were Fine, You Weren’t Even Lonely (out August 6) does find a way to make heartbreak beautiful. It doesn’t hurt that Faye has an A-list backing band at her disposal, including players like Greg Leisz and Jay Bellerose. On “It’s a Fighter,” she sings about a war-torn heart while the others back her up, adding brushed percussion, light guitar and Rhodes to the mix.“‘It’s A Fighter’ is a song about doing battle with your own heart — and ultimately, losing the fight,” Faye tells us. BEN WASSON "ADIOS C'EST LA VIE"

While Ben Wasson, a native born Missourian, was serving as a radar man on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Intrepid, he danced at the local USO in New York City to Buddy Holly's "That'll Be the Day" and "Peggy Sue”. Little could he know that a short time later he would be in far away Clovis, NM at the legendary Norvajak Recording Studio singing into the same microphone and produced by the same producer, as the late great Buddy Holly. Ben worked under the tutelage of the innovative engineer/producer/composer Norman Petty. Ben recorded with some of Nashville’s greatest talents, such as - Tommy Allsup, Brien Fisher, Norris Wilson and musicians - Pete Drake, Lloyd Greene, Weldon Myrick, Hargus Robbins, Buddy Harman, and The Jordanaires.

HONEY ISLAND SWAMP BAND "CANE SUGAR"

The Honey Island Swamp è una zona paludosa, che è situata nella parte orientale dello stato americano della Louisiana in St. Tammany Parish. La band musicale si è riunita, dopo che Aaron Wilkinson (chitarra acustica, mandolino, voce) e il suo compagno Chris Mule' (chitarra, voce) vennero abbandonati a San Francisco, per poi incontrarsi con gli sfollati di New Orleans, cioè gli altri colleghi Sam Price (basso, voce) e Paolo Garland (batteria, voce), al famoso John Lee Hooker Boom Boom Room sulla Fillmore Street. Come si è potuto intuire, si conoscevano già, avendo suonato tutti insieme in varie band di New Orleans. Cosi decisero di mettere insieme una band, per cosi suonare, per qualche buon concerto. Fortunatamente, il proprietario del Boom Boom Room Alex Andreas ha offerto alla band un concerto alla settimana sul posto. In seguito per due mesi, hanno voluto registrare, con un ingegnere del suono Robert Gatley, un album presso il leggendario Record Plant studios a Sausalito. "Cane Sugar", grande musica, che inizia con grandi canzoni. Canzoni senza tempo, chitarre brucianti, mandolino e armonie vocali, per un groove potente della Louisiana. Attingendo da una varietà di influenze nel mondo della musica delle radici, tra cui artisti del calibro di Lowell George Little Feat, The Band, Taj Mahal, Gram Parsons, Jerry Garcia, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Reed, Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown e New Orleans' sino a Earl King e Dr John. DAILEY & VINCENT "BROTHERS OF THE HIGHWAY"

Fin dall'inizio della loro salda e fluida collaborazione, verso la fine del 2007, Jamie Dailey e Darrin Vincent si sono affermati come voci fresche nella musica tradizionale. Con "With Brothers of the Highway", il loro quinto album, il duo effettua un interessante passo in avanti, con brani originali, così come brani di the Louvin Brothers, George Strait, Vince Gill e il padre del Bluegrass stesso, Bill Monroe. "With Brothers of the Highway" è un lavoro ben congegnato, duro e suggestivo, che pianta ancora più in profondità nel terreno ricco di musica americana. ''Abbiamo speso un sacco di tempo a scrivere e selezionare canzoni per il nostro nuovo album Brothers of the Highway, cosi racconta Dailey il cantautore americano. Questo è un tale processo unico e speciale. Siamo assolutamente soddisfatti per il risultato. Per me, la canzone più sentimentale del progetto è una canzone che ho scritto chiamato "Back" di Jackson County.' Essa riflette sulla mia infanzia e come sono cresciuto. SENA EHRHARDT "ALL IN"

Sena Ehrhardt è indubbiamente una delle più fresche e più dinamiche giovani voci sulla scena blues oggi. Una volta che le luci si accendono, la sua presenza scenica e il grintoso, soulfully vocal emotivo, cattura il pubblico, a dispetto dei luoghi comuni, è il suo aspetto giovanile e grandiosa. Il ronzio di Sena è pronta per andare a livello internazionale con le sue incendiarie performance in club e festival in tutto il Midwest. Entusiasmo nel  suo brillante debutto discografico, "Leave The Light On", votato dal Blues Blast Magazine's "Best New Artist", per la sua seconda registrazione, Sena ha collaborato con uno dei principali produttori al mondo di rock e blues, vincitore di molti grammi award, Jim Gaines. Il risultato, come Sena raffigura, è stata " un'esperienza di vita." "All In" offre la promessa di lasciare la luce accesa, in una  tra le migliori e più versatili cantanti blues . La maggior parte del materiale è stato coscritto con suo padre, il chitarrista, Ed Ehrhardt. Gli originali eseguiti  dolcemente come da rockers in  "Buried Alive" e "Man Up" "Through the funky groove of ","All In" e "Storm's Coming". E infine nella coda dell'Album, una bella ballata con protezione "Dreamin e Dyin.", intervallati da alcuni brani ben scelti e ballad, "Cry To Me" e il blues classico, "Cold Cold Feeling". In tutto, con prestazioni fresche e incisive, rese in uno stile che si muove senza problemi dal sensuale al dichiarato appassionatamente forte. Particolare è il gioco del suo fraseggio vocale con suo padre, chitarra solista. "All In" sarà senza dubbio uno dei più acclamati Blues Album, dell'anno. SENA EHRHARDT

KEVIN DEAL "THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD"

Kevin Deal è una famiglia con una visione fondata sulla fede. Un grande album da un uomo buono. Kevin scrive testi significativi con un solido messaggio evangelico ed ha una voce unica. Complimenti per i musicisti, suono eccezionale. Album preferito finora, ma controllate i suoi Album vecchi, se amate un uomo con un dono di scrivere. “There Goes The Neighborhood” è Album un po’ più acustico dei precedenti, suonato tra country music e folk, con iniezioni bluegrass e gospel, un album vincente. La matrice gospel o comunque religiosa è presente in molti momenti del disco. Mandolino, banjo, lap steel e chitarre elettriche passano di brano in brano.La registrazione è una rinfrescante partenza consolidata da un tutore dei mali del mondo di musica spirituale. Mentre questo è un chiaro sapore evangelico e spinta, compilato in modo da fornire sia il comfort che un'occasione di riflessione per coloro di qualsiasi fede. Qualcosa di rassicurante, il più fondamentale promemoria mistico, qualcosa di più grande che si riconosce sempre, quando si guarda un cielo notturno pieno di stelle, a mezz'ora di punta in una giungla di cemento.
