Sesto album dell’icona folk Joan Baez, venne pubblicato nel 1965 dall’etichetta Vanguard (è una registrazione stupenda!) .La cantante, cantautrice e attivista Joan Baez è una delle figure più significative della musica moderna, con una carriera che dura da oltre sei decenni. Sebbene spesso identificata principalmente con il movimento folk degli anni '60, la sua influenza si è estesa ben oltre. Maestra interprete di canzoni, Baez ha ottenuto il successo fin da piccola, registrando un mix eclettico di ballate tradizionali, gospel e musica folk.Il brano che dà il titolo all’album “Farewell Angelina” è stato scritto da Bob Dylan negli anni Sessanta. L’autore intendeva inserirla nel disco Bringing it All Back Home, ma dopo una prima incisione cambiò idea. HOVEN DROVEN " TRAD "

Tradotto dall'inglese-Hoven Droven è una band folk rock svedese fondata nel 1989. Sono specializzati in arrangiamenti strumentali e hard rock di vecchie melodie folk svedesi. La traduzione inglese più vicina alla frase Jamtish "Hoven Droven" è "helter skelter" o "qualunque cosa". Band folk-rock svedese Hoven Droven, vecchia di tre decenni, da quando li ho ascoltati per la prima volta nel 1998 negli album Nordic Sampler dell'etichetta discografica Northside. Avevo perso il contatto con loro, ma sono felice di sentire che sono ancora insieme e portano la tradizione della musica popolare svedese con i loro colpi di scena interpretativi contemporanei, rock e chiassosi. Registrato durante la pandemia del 2020, Trad è un'aggiunta tanto attesa (circa dieci anni in realtà) al loro catalogo di esuberante musica folk-rock/world fusion alla Horslips. E proprio come la band scozzese Wolfstone, gli Hoven Droven fonde temi tradizionali con strumentazione e scrittura di canzoni rock più contemporanee.In Trad, Hoven Droven fa fluire lo spirito liberamente mentre le loro melodie avvincenti mescolano elementi di folklore, misticismo e riferimenti contemporanei. AMBER SWEENEY "LONE SAILOR"

Amber Sweeney is an accomplished soul/rock singer, songwriter, and recording artist who recently signed with Seattle based record label, London Tone Music, to release a single as part of their 52x52: A Year In Your Ear project. Her single “Lone Sailor,” produced by Geoff Ott, is due to release later this year. In 2013, Amber released two E.P.s: The Starting Line (April 16) and Christmas Time (November 28). Both were released worldwide through CD Baby and are available on iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, Spotify, Pandora Radio and more. Upon release of The Starting Line, Antimusic said, “In an age of auto-tuned so-called singers, a truly gifted singer like roots rocker Amber Sweeney is a breath of much needed fresh air.” Amber’s voice, musical talent, and songwriting have also been featured in two CW television series: One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected (Flying Machine, Girl In The Moon, Quicksand, Maybe, Stars, Feel This - written by Jonathan Jackson of Enation) while one half of the duo known as Everly. Her voice has also been featured in Stephen King’s film adaptation of Riding The Bullet, while bass player and back up singer for the rock band Enation. She can also be heard on another northwest band’s album, The Alleged Album by One From Many (Tears We Cry Alone and Shape Of Your Heart). She is also scheduled to play Maryhill Winery (Goldendale, WA), and Clark County Fair (Ridgefield, WA) as part of her summer dates for 2014. She is known for being engaging and truly entertaining during her live performances.

MATT HARLAN "RAVEN HOTEL"

THE REVIVALISTS "CITY OF SOUND"

The formation of The Revivalists was all about chance, but everything since then has been a combination of hard work, awesome music, and friendship.  The septet has been playing nonstop since 2007, crafting a genre-hopping sound that rounds out traditional rock instrumentation with horns and pedal steel guitar and mixes the divergent backgrounds of its individual members with the humid, funky undercurrents of the band’s New Orleans home.  The result is like English spoken with an exotic accent: familiar, yet difficult to pin down.Religion aside, a revival is all about the tangible electricity that can only be created when enough like minds are crammed under a single roof for a singular purpose. It’s a spiritual spectacle, a carnival of the divine, a whole greater than the sum of its parts.  The same could be said for The Revivalists’ searing live performances.  The band has a knack for bringing music to life on a stage, and they have tuned their talents to Swiss-watch precision over years of relentless touring. Their bombastic showmanship is the outgrowth of a desire to connect with audiences on a personal level, and that intimate connection is what elevates their shows above simple entertainment.True to their name, The Revivalists lean more heavily on the older styles and warmer sounds of the golden age of rock ‘n roll, but the band isn’t afraid to dabble in electronics and sleight-of-studio when it’s right for the song.  The group tends not to bother with questions like “does this sound like us?” or “does this fit with our other stuff?”, instead allowing songs to define themselves and take shape organically, each on its own terms. ERICK HOVEY "BLUES FARM"

Based in the wonderfully named Fort Dodge in Iowa, Erick Hovey learnt the basic blues scale when he was only eight years old. Erick has improved on this in such a stupendous way that this album makes you wonder why you haven’t come across his name before? Out of these dozen tunes, the delightful Patchouli certainly grabbed my attention. It is songs like this which make you yearn for an extended version as this groove never becomes tiresome. Fight That Monkey opens with guitar but this is soon joined by vocals which blew me away. Pronounced by Real Blues Magazine as being among their top hundred new releases for 2009, I would urge others to follow their and my own advice to try their utmost to track down a copy of this very distinguished The opener on the Blues Farm CD, “Ball and Chain,” has a slow, moody, funky backdrop with some terrific understated guitar work. “Know Who You Are” is more upbeat, almost blues/rock with Hovey’s ragged but right guitar, and features some tasty harmonica from Andy Blumenthal and keyboards from Tom Gary. “Soda Pop Girl” is a gentle swinger about a girl who drives our protagonist around town while he drinks, and “Patchouli” is highlighted by Hovey’s stinging guitar fills. Other highlights include the atmospheric “Runnin’ With A Full Moon,” the jazzy workout, “Fight That Monkey,” “Missing Part,” and the guitar-driven shuffle, “I’m Through.” Hovey’s a fine guitarist and his vocals are solid and suit the material well, and he gets excellent support from Blumenthal (harmonica), Gary (keys), Jeff Foreman (drums), Dan Lodden (bass), and Heather Kelly (vocals). MARK LANEGAN "IMITATIONS"

Quattordici anni dopo I'll Take Care Of You, arriva un altro disco di cover per Mark Lanegan. Imitations, uscito su etichetta Heavenly Recordings (Vagrant in America). Fra gli artisti interpretati dall’ex cantante degli Screaming Trees, Nick Cave e Frank Sinatra. "Quando ero piu che un bambino, negli anni '60, i miei genitori e i loro amici suonavano i dischi di Andy Williams, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra e Perry Como", spiega Lanegan in un comunicato ufficiale. "Era musica con degli arrangiamenti orchestrali e uomini che cantavano canzoni che sembravano tristi, che lo fossero effettivamente o meno. A casa mia la mia famiglia ascoltava anche il country, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, George Jones e Vern Gosdin. Per un certo lungo periodo ho desiderato fare un disco che mi desse le stesse sensazioni di quei vecchi album, adoperando qualcuna delle vecchie melodie che amavo da bambino e altre che ho amato dopo, crescendo. Quel disco, conclude Lanegan, è Imitations". Un disco di cover che spaziano dal folk al country, passando per il blues, un prodotto molto valido e personale, un tributo alla musica con la quale è cresciuto. JASMINE RAE "IF I WANT TO"

La cantante Country Jasmine Rae, dopo una breve pausa di due anni, vincitrice del premio CMC, ha rilasciato il nuovo album "If I Want To", accompagnato da un video clip. La ragazza stravagante, con un viso fresco, ha fatto un altro passo avanti nella sua escalation di evoluzione artistica. Racconta che : «Questo album è un'onesta conversazione tra me e l'ascoltatore». La cantante nata a Melbourne, e cresciuta nei sobborghi, come l'unica ragazza della sua classe che amava la musica country, scrive canzoni, che rivelano ogni aspetto della sua vita. L'album è stato registrato, mixato e prodotto nella città di Nashville da Luke Wooten. La prima canzone è senza dubbio la miglior canzone personale di Jasmine Rae, che mai aveva scritto, e lo ha fatto con l'aiuto di un altro giovane scrittore australiano Briana Lee, dopo che suo padre perse la sua battaglia con il cancro. Dice a proposito: E' stato difficile iniziare a scrivere, o iniziare qualcosa di nuovo, lasciare finire una canzone senza di lui. HALF MOON RUN "DARK EYES"

Ecco l'uscita dell'album di debutto attesissimo degli Half Moon Run "Dark Eyes". Registrato a Montreal, l'album è stato prodotto dalla band al fianco di altri musicisti, Nygel Asselin, Daniel Legace e Jim Eno. La band composta da Devon Portielje, Conner Molander, Dylan Phillips e Isaac Symonds riunitisi a Montreal, ha collegato e coltivato un sogno a lungo condiviso, di ciò che la musica dovrebbe essere. Cosi è nato il loro album, sia tempestoso che estatico, essendo artisti musicalmente abili, e polistrumentisti, non essendo infatti in nessun modo vincolati ad uno strumento solo. Un disco esemplare di Indie folk, ben fatto, con ritmo e una melodia molto accattivante, delle armonie vocali e anche un buon pizzico di vera psichedelia. Ritmi e svolazzi atmosferici interessanti, che si fondono perfettamente con la voce notevole del cantante Devon Portielje, incredibilmente pieno di anima.  HALF MOON RUN
