Ancora un altro tributo ai Grateful Dead probabilmente attirerà le stesse reazioni da parte dei devoti e di chiunque altro: "oh, di nuovo queste canzoni?" o "Hmm, di nuovo queste canzoni?" Per chiunque sia disposto a dare un'occhiata, dipenderà (ovviamente) dal modo in cui il materiale viene presentato e riorganizzato, che nel caso di Dave McMurray significa il suono di Detroit. Il suo sassofono riflette le sue radici nella Motown e nel soul, qualunque cosa faccia, e quindi Grateful Deadication 2 insaporisce queste canzoni con funk con sfumature B3 e un pizzico occasionale di follia di Motor City. Lungo la strada c'è spazio per alcuni tocchi autenticamente simili a Dead ; "China Cat Sunflower" ottiene un intermezzo di flauto pastorale leggero, e Jamey Johnson canta "To Lay Me Down" con sincera semplicità sul tipo di calda chitarra a pedali d'acciaio che Jerry Garcia avrebbe sempre desiderato poter suonare. LAWSON ROLLINS "RISE"

Cole è nato a Chicago, nell'Illinois, e ha iniziato a suonare in giovane età. While the Fayetteville, North Carolina native is new on many people’s radars, he’s actually been performing and recording since the early 90s and has eight previous CDs, several under the name Reggie C; the most recent of these are Sunny Days (2008), Vision of Dreams (2010), Christmas With Pops (2009) and Journey Back Home (2005), which was produced by Phil Davis, who has worked with Stanley Clarke, George Duke and Al Jarreau, among many others.Produced by and featuring the tenacious bass playing of Brian Morgan (whose many credits include George Benson), A Vicarious Experience finds Codrington—whose primary voice is the curved soprano sax--in a romantic, optimistic mood, using the changing vibes of the songs (and the listener’s imagination) to chronicle the ups, downs, excitement and challenges of a romantic relationship from track to track. While many artists cite their parents as prime influences on their careers, Codrington takes that one step further, inviting his father Ray—who helped Codrington develop his skills and learn improvisation—to play trumpet throughout the recording.“When I make a record, I always want to have a warm sound with harmonies,” he says, “and in this case that means having dad play a lot of horn parts and percussion. When we were making the album, I found myself in a 70s and 80s type groove, inspired by everyone from De La Soul funk rhythms to Sade and Parliament. I grew up listening to old school R&B/funk so that’s a pretty natural influence for me. The process began with Brian sending me some great tracks and me putting melodies to them, then arranging harmonies and atmospheres around my lead sax. DEE LUCAS "THE SMOOTH FACTOR"

Born and raised in Tanner, Alabama, Dee Lucas had always loved listening to music, and many genres of music were often played in his family's home. However much he wanted to play an instrument when he was younger, he had instead gone into sports, and then later graduated from the University of North Alabama in 1988 with a degree in Marketing and concentration in Computer Information Systems. A year later, he moved to Atlanta and after a couple of years of getting settled in his corporate job, Lucas suddenly got an urge to pick up the sax for the first time - at the age of 28. Once he had picked up the horn, he knew that his years of listening to music from his personal and family collections would pay off. Dee often visited local jazz clubs to get a feel for the pulse of the local scene. "Listening to some of the talented sax players around the city was education enough to build a thirst to go home and mimic what they did," says Dee. "With the combination of listening to a plethora of music on CD while going to see local cats like Darien Emory, Antonio Allen, Sam Skelton, Jimmy Brown (Brick), and trumpeters Melvin Miller and Milkshake, that was truly enough to develop a personal vote of confidence." In 1997, Lucas got his start as a musician playing as a sideman in a local band, Between 9&7. The band recorded a CD, which was a moderate regional hit. Although he got performances, both rhythm and solos, Lucas felt it was time to develop his own by ensemble to demand more challenges within himself as both a musician and entrepreneur. So, on New Year's Eve of 1999, Lucas formed his own contemporary jazz trio, Xpressions. They produced and recorded a CD titled Footprints, which gained notoriety in regional markets. The record contained the classic hit People Make the World Go Round. All of the compositions were produced and arranged by friend and keyboardist Karey Davis and assisted by the saxman himself. In one word Solomon’s music can be described as UniverSoul ~ “one universal sound that soothes the soul.“ The language of his music is universal. He is a musician who makes no boasts about his musical talent, but credits his Daddy (Jehovah) for blessing him with the ability to do what he ­does. A native of Bridgeport, Connecticut, Solomon grew up as a PK (Preacher’s Kid) and was exposed to the ministry of music early in his childhood. He is the oldest of three siblings and began playing the bass guitar at age 15 with his family’s gospel quartet, The Edmond Family. Solomon’s passion for playing the keyboard ultimately lead him to a career as a minister of ­music for over 25 years. He has since began focusing on the creation and production of the music he was once forbidden to express...Love Songs!
He is also gifted to draw and design. In 1977, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia to attend the Atlanta College of Arts to pursue a degree in graphic design. He was very excited about a promising future as a design artist and dreamed of one day owning his own graphic design company. But little did he know, there would be a divine interruption of his plans – one that almost took his life. While attending college, Solomon became deathly ill and had to drop out of school. He moved back home with his parents in South Georgia and was convalescent for several ­years. He was finally diagnosed with Sarcoidosis of the lungs. As a result of this incurable disease, he lost partial use of his lungs, glands and total use of his left eye. It was then that Solomon realized how useless he was without his creator. A total surrender was inevitable. God completely restored to him the use of his glands and the joy of his ­salvation.Solomon made his debut to the “so-called” secular music industry with his release of Together Again in 2007, a soulful compilation of jazz, rooted in gospel with a mild mix of Latin and R&B beats. The CD is a tribute to his first cousin, Jonathan Dubose. They grew up together in Bridgeport. After many years of separation, the two have come Together Again on this project. Jonathan is the baddest guitarist in the land. He is also known in the gospel industry as the prophesying ­guitarist. Solomon later released “Love Language” in 2010. VALERIE TROUTT "THE SOUND OF PEACE"

ValerieTroutt è una cantante e chitarrista di blues e jazz, con padre di Oakland e sua madre una predicatrice. E' cresciuta cantando musica gospel in chiesa con il vescovo Walter Hawkins, ha studiato jazz presso la The New School in New York City e ha trascorso due anni come membro del patrimonio culturale nel coro di Linda Tillery. La fusione di vita spirituale e creativa di Troutt emerse presto, all'età di sette con il suo primo assolo di chiesa. Per poi aprirsi al mondo del jazz presso la stessa scuola che ha prodotto jazzisti del calibro di Joshua Redman e Benny Green, infine, il programma della nuova scuola Jazz Performance con contemporanei come Oliver Bilal e Tiombe Lockhart, sempre circondata da docenti e discenti, sia verticalmente che orizzontalmente, per la sua fioritura musicale. Ha avuto fasi di condivisione con artisti importanti come Les Nubians, e leggende come Bobby McFerrin, poi influenze varie e disparate nelle sue registrazioni come Bjork, Dianne Reeves, Carmen McRae, Joni Mitchell, Walter Hawkins e Cassandra Wilson. CHRISTIAN ROBINSON "ON THE C SIDE"

L'album di debutto del poliedrico chitarrista, bassista e pricipalmente produttore Christian Robinson, nato e cresciuto a Los Angeles, California, si intitola "On The C Side". Con il suo ascolto, si ci può accorgere delle caratteristiche della sua musica, che è basato su un jazz liscio e melodico, con una matrice di stili musicali, tra cui danza, hip-hop, Jazz, Funk, Blues e RB. Tuttavia mi sembra l'essenza del smooth jazz e della musica jazz contemporaneo. Molte sono le sue influenze musicali, che includono poi grandi artisti, che vanno da Najee, Wes Montgomery, Boney James, Earl Klugh, David Benoit, George Benson, Norman Brown sino al re B.B. King. Cresciuto ad amare la musica Gospel, Christian ha cominciato a combinare cosi dei vari stili musicali, suonando la tastiera da produttore giovane, dopo 3 anni cominciò ad imparare la teoria musicale al pianoforte. Iniziò a scrivere canzoni più centrate intorno alla chitarra e alla fine fù portato a suonare il basso elettrico. ROB DAME "TALISMAN" FEAT. FRANK SOUTHECORVO

Rob Dame, sia chitarrista jazz che compositore, è cresciuto a nord di NYC e ora vive negli Stati Uniti. Ha trascorso cosi gli ultimi 10 anni ha suonare standard jazz, presso dei country club, musei e comunità. Direi che questa sua musica è influenzata da una varietà di artisti, tra cui, Larry Carlton, Grant Green, Josef Zawinul e Donald Fagen. In quest'ultimo album, "Talisman", c'è stata una collaborazione con Frank Southecorvo, sassofonista, che si concentra sul jazz e altre musiche improvvisate, e suonando con altre band dove include un mix eclettico di stili musicali. Frank insegna anche sassofono (contralto, tenore e baritono) e improvvisazione jazz nel suo studio a ovest di Asheville. CARO EMERALD "THE SHOCKING MISS EMERALD"

Caro Emerald è tornata. Il singolo "Tangled Up", trasmessa in radio da qualche settimana, stà lentamente scalando le classifiche europee dei singoli più venduti, anticipando la pubblicazione del prossimo disco "The Shocking Miss Emerald", per la Time Records. Uscita prevista per il prossimo 3 Maggio in tutta Europa. La gran voce della jazzista olandese è diventata  tanto celebre, a livello internazionale con i brani "Back it up" e "A night like this". Il disco mescolerà le sonorità pop e tango, tale da sembrare di essere stati catapultati nell’epoca elegante della Francia anni 20. Altro disco in cui si apprezza qualitivamente la sua gradevole, sublime, affascinante e incantevole caratteristica vocale. Qualità in cui ha fatto da presa, sin da subito agli esperti del settore e anche gli ascoltatori medi, che apprezzano la sua voce e le sue sonorità a metà tra il moderno e quel vintage, che tanto va in voga negli ultimi anni. L’eclettica cantante olandese è una dei talenti più rappresentativi del genere smooth jazz, nonostante la sua giovane età, di 32 anni. Approderà in Italia al Teatro Nuovo di Milano il prossimo 5 ottobre. CARO EMERALD

BONEY JAMES "THE BEAT"

Il sassofonista Boney James ritorna in questi giorni, con il dinamico e rivoluzionario album, Beat. Uno dei più riusciti artisti strumentali dei nostri tempi, con un nuovo progetto dove fonde il suo R&B e il Jazz Latino con ritmo e percussioni. Include degli ospiti speciali, con la tromba del grande Rick Braun, l'eclettico cantante soul Raheem DeVaughn e il poeta e musicista The Floacist. Il suo tenore qui è aperto e sensuale. Boney James aggiunge qui,  nuovi e piccanti arrangiamenti, che spaziano sia dal suono sottile che al sofisticato, agli otto brani, come l'elegante "SunsetBoulevard" che suona delicatamente funky, chic e   potente, uno dei brani migliori . Il dolce "Mari's Song" è sublime, e la più moderna e ‘Powerhouse’ con Raheem De Vaughn, mentre ‘Make Of Love’, ‘The Midas’ e ‘Batucada’ sono essenzialmente dolci. Egli capisce il suo straordinario talento e sa come fondere la sua originalità di ciò che i suoi fan amano ascoltare, entusiasta con loro in uno dei migliori dischi che abbia mai fatto. BONEY JAMES

ALANA SWEETWATER & THE SATISFACTION

Nella tarda estate del 2011, un giovane, ma saggio editore di musica, ha introdotto un talento fenomenale di estremamente bello. Il suddetto cantautore è Alana Sweetwater, unica e potente cantante. Sollevata dagli Ebrei, hippy nel deserto, Alana ha avuto un precoce apprezzamento per tutte le cose spirituali, da Dio alla poesia, e i Grateful Dead. Alana divenne un fiocco del venerabile club come Hotel Café, e sulla strada. Alana flirta con le principali etichette  ma per fortuna, aveva il senso di integrità e si affida ad  giovane produttore. Detto produttore Scott Feldman, un multi-strumentista da NY, con un grande senso del vivere e  sensibilità pop. Scott  ha girato come un tastierista, chitarrista, cantante e backup, direttore musicale di Asia. I due accettato volentieri il ruolo di spina dorsale di un nuovo progetto, i Sweetwater. Entrambi sono stati estremamente utili per la disposizione di tutti i brani della band, full-length, e sono accreditati scrittori in diversi brani. Recentemente, hanno aggiunto Jimmy Heberling alla chitarra, che ha svolto un ruolo importante nell'evoluzione audio della band.
