PIPER & THE HARD TIMES " GOOD COMPANY "

Piper & the Hard Times uniscono la sensibilità e lo stile delle vecchie blues band con l'abilità e l'inventiva dei rocker moderni... uno dei principali nuovi gruppi blues americani." (Ron Wynn/Nashville Scene). Il gruppo blues di Nashville propone una musica intensa e dinamica che si traduce in uno spettacolo dal vivo indimenticabile e coinvolgente.Il secondo album dei Piper & The Hard Times, vincitori del Blues Music Award, "Good Company", mostra l'abbraccio della band alle proprie radici blues, allargando al contempo i confini con funk, rock e soul. "Good Company" celebra l'affiatamento tra i musicisti e l'amore reciproco. Registrato in tre giorni nel marzo 2025 nel leggendario Oceanway Studio A di Nashville, P&THT ha nuovamente collaborato con il produttore Tres Sasser e l'ingegnere del suono Joe Costa per un secondo album di grande impatto. È una band divertente da vedere dal vivo e mostrano questo lato del loro carattere avendo ognuno un soprannome da abbinare a quello di Piper: Steve "The Conductor" Eagon è descritto come il "Chief Riff Officer", il batterista Dave "Sexy Boy" Colella è il "Chief Rhythm Officer", il bassista Parker "Porkchop Funstick" Hawkins è il "Chief Groove Officer" e la tastierista Amy "The Professor" Frederick è la "Chief Soul Officer"! Hanno contribuito al brano anche i "Good Company Consultants", Eddie Meyer e Charlie DiPuma, al sassofono in quattro brani, John "Hotfingers" Wallum, all'organo in due, Lisa Oliver-Gray ed Etta Britt che hanno aggiunto i cori in tutto il brano. PIPER THE HARD TIMES

WILD IRIS BRASS BAND " WAY UP "

La WILD IRIS BRASS BAND, una band soul proveniente da Nashville, Tennessee, suona alcuni dei groove più funky delle brass band di questa parte di New Orleans! Co-fondata dal sassofonista Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band/Bela Fleck & the Flecktones), vincitore di 3 Grammy, e dal trombonista Ray Mason (Lauren Daigle, Elvis Costello, Antibalas, Taylor Swift), la Wild Iris è nata all'inizio del 2021 come augurio di compleanno a sorpresa per un amico. La musica suonava così bene che la band ha deciso di provarci e scrivere e registrare musica originale: è nata così la Wild Iris Brass Band. La Wild Iris è composta da Jeff Coffin al sax tenore, Ray Mason al trombone, Emmanuel Echem alla tromba, Jovan Quallo al sax contralto, Neil Konouchi al sousafono, Justin Amaral alla batteria e percussioni, e a completare la festa della brass band c'è Ryoko Suzuki al tamburello. I Wild Iris suonano musica divertente e generosa, con un groove così profondo che non hai altra scelta che sorridere, battere il piede, alzarti e ballare. Gli arrangiamenti dei fiati sono serrati e ricchi di sorprese. In "We're The Wild Iris", il trombettista Steven Bernstein si esibisce con un micidiale intermezzo di tromba slide elettrica. Il sousafono di Neil Konouchi dà il via a una deliziosa versione festosa di "9 To 5" di Dolly Parton, con assoli feroci di Coffin, Mason e del trombettista Emmanuel Echem. WILD IRIS BRASS BAND

STEVE COLE "SMOKE AND MIRRORS"

Cole è nato a Chicago, nell'Illinois, e ha iniziato a suonare in giovane età. All'inizio si è formato classicamente, seguendo le orme del padre con il clarinetto prima di passare al sassofono al liceo. Mentre era alla Northwestern University, ha studiato sassofono classico prima di cambiare campo in economia, ottenendo infine un MBA presso l'Università di Chicago. Dopo aver lasciato la scuola, Cole tornò a concentrarsi sulla musica; in particolare, jazz.Nel 2000 il suo primo album da solista Stay Awhile gli è valso il Prism Award come Best New Artist agli Oasis Smooth Jazz Awards. È stato anche vincitore del concorso annuale per giovani artisti della Chicago Symphony Orchestra, che gli ha concesso l'onore di esibirsi con l'orchestra.Smoke and Mirrors è il risultato di 10 canzoni vivaci e sorprendentemente organici, pieno di melodie accattivanti e groove funky in una gamma di tempi. Le sensazioni vanno dall'effervescente "It's a House Party" alla malinconica "Trust". Gli assoli di Cole sono intrinsecamente romantici, con un tono corposo e un fraseggio fluido. JYOTI "MAMA,YOU CAN BET!"

Disco di Jyoti, moniker dietro il quale si cela la polistrumentista californiana Georgia Anne Muldrow. A qualche anno di distanza dai primi due album da solista in questa veste, Ocotea del 2010 e Denderah del 2013, Jyoti è appena tornata con quindici nuove tracce.“Questo disco è un'avventura attraverso il mio atteggiamento. È stato programmato per riecheggiare gli stati emotivi che visito in luoghi sonori perché l'arte della produzione musicale ha una qualità simile a uno specchio che lo incoraggia. Volevo che mia madre sapesse che merita un amore appassionato, che la vedo come una donna bellissima. Volevo che mia nipote sapesse che apprezzo la sua geniale danza e i suoi movimenti cerebrali. Voleva fare un esperimento di bebop su come potesse essere il viaggio astrale in Benin. Per dedicare un brano a quanto sono orgoglioso dell'amore per la scrittura di mio nipote. Per dire al mio amico quanto la amiamo ancora anche se ha lasciato questo mondo. Tutti i tipi di cose intime come al solito. Perché questo stile di musica è il più vicino al mio cuore. GAYELYNN MCKINNEY "ZOOT SUIT FUNK"

L'ultimo album di Gayelynn è stato un tributo alle composizioni di suo padre, Harold McKinney. In questo album, le sue composizioni sono al centro della scena e porta con sé un fantastico gruppo di musicisti: Ibrahim Jones al basso, Alex Anest alla chitarra, Demetrius Nabors alle tastiere, Trenita Womack alle percussioni e Rafael Statin al sax tenore , Flauto Basso, Clarinetto Basso e Sassofono Soprano. Ci sono meravigliosi arrangiamenti di Gayelynn su 2 cover, "My Love Is Deeper" di Jill Scott e "Lovely Day" di Bill Withers. "My Love is Deeper", è stato rinnovato da funky Neo soul a head bobbing swing. "Lovely Day "ha nuovi accordi e un'atmosfera aggiunta alla composizione originale. È appropriato che questa canzone sia inclusa, per onorare il signor Bill Withers, scomparso all'inizio di quest'anno. Per la title track" Zoot Suit Funk ", Gayelynn e compagnia incorporano diversi generi e stili in un breve lasso di tempo ... dall'intro di chitarra in stile Jimi Hendrix di Alex Anest ai riff di Gayelynn, Rafael e Demetrius in uno stile che ricorda il gospel e l'inizio della Motown. Dopo aver ascoltato ogni canzone, mi sono perso nel musica più volte di quanto potessi contare. Questo è uno di quegli album che le persone vorranno suonare dall'inizio alla fine in un dato incontro sociale. TOM BROWNE "LEGACY"

Consider the songs in our hearts that inspire us toward uplifted continence; melodies that ring out in a manner that is soulful ... even funky! Now think of an artist; an artist who George Benson describes as "joy filled in expressiveness" and "believable in any musical style," topping the jazz and adult contemporary / R & B charts with his kickin' trumpet and rich jazz melodies. That artist ... is trumpeter Tom Browne.Browne began to carve a path for his musical future early on, studying via scholarship under Murray Karpilovsky(principal trumpeter with the NBC Orchestra directed by Arturo Toscanini.) A student at the co -joined High School of Music and Art / Performing Arts in New York (renowned courtesy of the motion picture entitled"Fame,") Browne became a regular on the New York jazz scene and had the fortune of learning first hand frommasters like Jimmy Nottingham, Richard Williams, Woody Shaw and Freddie Hubbard. Browne soon played his first pro level performances as sideman to jazz greats Weldon Irvine and Sonny Fortune for which he earned domestic and international recognition. It was no surprist that Downbeat Magazine would single out his "warm trumpet" during the review of Fortunes' 1976 "Infinity Is" album. TOM BROWNE

HACKNEY COLLIERY BAND "SHARPENER"

A tour de force of trumpets, trombones, saxes, sousaphone, marching percussion and electronics, the band are as inspired by contemporary rock and electronica as they are New Orleans marching bands and the traditional British brass bands to which their name pays homage. Formed in 2008 out of a desire to play music that appealed to the feet as much as to the ears, the band has rapidly gained an army of loyal supporters, including radio support from Lauren Laverne, Gilles Peterson, Craig Charles, Huey Morgan, Jamie Cullum, Rob Da Bank and John Kennedy. Since the release of their eponymous debut in 2011, the 9-piece have blown their way into the public consciousness with their energetic and passionate live shows, amassing fans worldwide and reinventing the brass band sound for the modern age. New LP Sharpener shows the band on fine form and more confident than ever, with powerful new electronic elements and a dance floor sensibility adding to the jazz, rock and soul for which they are known. Building on the strength of their critically-acclaimed original writing, Sharpener has a powerful set of originals at its core, alongside a trio of leftfield covers in the shape of Nirvana’s Heart-Shaped Box, Kwabs’ Wrong or Right and Three Trapped Tigers’ Cramm. It’s a record that resounds with humour, charm and the hum of the glorious variety of musical genres that emanate from their hometown. Album opener Jump Then Run echoes the sound of the legendary Moondog, while Gather Your Wits is a roof-raising rumble of brass and rebellious behaviour. Wrong or Right, a soulful version of London soul star Kwabs’ great tune, comes to life with juicy menace before The Morning, an uplifting anthemic arrangement, builds into joyous hedonism. When You Know gives space to the band’s superb jazz chops, while album title track Sharpener is a big, bold, brassy and utterly mesmerising affair. It’s perhaps the band’s outstanding arrangements which sets them apart. From the intricacies of Timelapse to the introspection of Reawake, from the punky rock groove of It’s Normally Bigger (based on a true story) to the rave jazz of Bread and Circuses, the arrangements throughout showcase writers Olly Blackman, Luke Christie and Steve Pretty’s contrasting styles, able to switch from screaming energy to moody introspection, from cutting-edge jazz to dancefloor rave, and proving that Hackney Colliery Band is not just another party brass band blowing through the usual pop covers. Alongside their critically-acclaimed releases, Hackney Colliery Band have really stormed the live circuit, selling out two-night runs at Wilton’s Music Hall and the Jazz Café in London, playing main stages of festivals including Field Day, Love Supreme, Wilderness, Cheltenham Jazz Festival and many more, and even performing a 45-minute set in the Olympic stadium as part of the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics. On the international circuit they’ve performed in clubs and festivals from Sziget in Hungary to G! Festival in the Faroe Islands, and in countries including Slovenia, Montenegro, Italy, Kosovo, France, Austria, Holland, Germany and Ireland. But the band are never content to rest on their laurels or to keep things simple, and are keen collaborators. Over the years they’ve run a series of experimental music nights at Ronnie Scott’s, a weekly new material night in venues across London, and worked with collaborators including Amy Winehouse, Fyfe Dangerfield, Eliza Doolittle, Jamie Cullum, Andreya Triana, Williams Fairey Band, Rhodes and DJ Yoda. More leftfield collaborations have even included working with a sausage maker on the ‘Hackney Colliery Banger’ and with legendary London brewery Truman’s on their own hugely popular ale ‘Bold as Brass’! They have performed live sessions on Radio 2 and Jazz FM and their performances have been featured on BBC Two (The Culture Show), Sky Arts (Brass Band Wonderland) and live at the BRIT, Mercury and MOBO awards. With Sharpener their most exciting work to date, a tour taking in more venues than ever before and a collaborative EP out in the autumn, 2016 looks set to be a huge year for Hackney Colliery Band. REGGIE CODRINGTON "ALWAYS IN MOTION"

Discerning urban jazz fans searching for something new to get jazzed and groove about don’t need to have A Vicarious Experience to make it happen—they just need to get hip to the melodic and cool old school soul meets contemporary funk of veteran saxophonist Reggie Codrington. While the Fayetteville, North Carolina native is new on many people’s radars, he’s actually been performing and recording since the early 90s and has eight previous CDs, several under the name Reggie C; the most recent of these are Sunny Days (2008), Vision of Dreams (2010), Christmas With Pops (2009) and Journey Back Home (2005), which was produced by Phil Davis, who has worked with Stanley Clarke, George Duke and Al Jarreau, among many others.Produced by and featuring the tenacious bass playing of Brian Morgan (whose many credits include George Benson), A Vicarious Experience finds Codrington—whose primary voice is the curved soprano sax--in a romantic, optimistic mood, using the changing vibes of the songs (and the listener’s imagination) to chronicle the ups, downs, excitement and challenges of a romantic relationship from track to track. While many artists cite their parents as prime influences on their careers, Codrington takes that one step further, inviting his father Ray—who helped Codrington develop his skills and learn improvisation—to play trumpet throughout the recording.“When I make a record, I always want to have a warm sound with harmonies,” he says, “and in this case that means having dad play a lot of horn parts and percussion. When we were making the album, I found myself in a 70s and 80s type groove, inspired by everyone from De La Soul funk rhythms to Sade and Parliament. I grew up listening to old school R&B/funk so that’s a pretty natural influence for me. The process began with Brian sending me some great tracks and me putting melodies to them, then arranging harmonies and atmospheres around my lead sax. The romantic story thread emerged from the emotions I was experiencing at the time with the lady I was dating. MILES TACKETT "THE FOOL WHO WONDERS"

After fifteen years of writing, producing, and performing some of the most influential sounds in the Los Angeles underground funky soul-jazz scene, Miles “Music Man” Tackett is releasing his most personal album yet, the soulful, guitar-centric The Fool Who Wonders, on July 8th.Miles Tackett is best known around the world as the creative mind behind Breakestra, a funk, soul-jazz band whose first record the Live Mix Part 2 (Stones Throw Records) & live shows harken back to the pre-sampling era of Bronx DJ performances in the 1970’s. Breakestra has toured the globe on its reputation of restoring authentic funk breaks from the sampled backgrounds of hip hop tracks to the foreground of the live experience, while still paying tribute to those same hip hop pioneers whose musical precision has always been an influence. Breakestra quickly evolved to writing and performing original funky soul-jazz compositions, releasing two LPs: 2005’s Hit the Floor on Ubiquity, and Dusk Till Dawn released in 2009 on Strut Records.“Music Man Miles,” as he is known in the underground DJ scene, also helms the longest-running funky soul party in Los Angeles, FUNKY SOLE, spinning a globe spanning, all-vinyl set every Saturday night. Influenced through his immersion in the underground hip hop scene at L.A. club The Root Down, collaborations with Mixmaster Wolf of Breakestra and renowned DJs like DJ Dusk, Cut Chemist and DJ Egon, Miles was inspired to build a collection of some of the finest deep funk, afro-latin, soul-jazz vinyl around & start djing as well.Tackett’s musical reputation extends well beyond the underground clubs of Los Angeles. He has performed and collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Macy Gray, Blind Melon, B.B. King, Little Feat, and legendary soul singer Syl Johnson. KEN HUSBANDS TRIO "KEEPIN' IT GOING"

Keepin’ It Going is Ken Husbands’ third release as a leader and the second with this group, featuring Aaron Germain on bass and Otto Huber on drums. It moves fluidly from the funk inflected opening track to the fast samba of the closer, passing through swing, odd metered grooves, African influences and out-and-out fusion on the way. This group has been working together in the San Francisco Bay area for several years and they have developed a cohesive ensemble approach. The original compositions are formally rigorous while leaving room for each of the musicians to display team-oriented virtuosity. Contemporary influences such as John Scofield and Wayne Krantz can be heard in Husbands’ guitar playing, and the title track evokes the world fusion of Weather Report, but this trio has its own sound and compositional approach that incorporates a wide range of musical styles, integrating odd time signatures and complex harmonies seamlessly into energetic grooves. Alex Puddu, was born in Rome, Italy, in 1967 but moved to Denmark at the age of 19 and quickly established his reputation as a musician in a number of indie rock bands. he Recorded he's first E.P with the band Excess Bleeding Heart" followed with The album "Libido".In the early 1995 he formed the Band "Nerve" with he's mate Morten Varano and 3 members of the band Sandman .They got sign with EMI and release one EP and the Album Speeed Freak Jive. Nerve got along by touring in DK and even a opening support show for David Bowie i Valby Hall.In 1997, The Band spilt up ,Alex Puddu and Morten Varano founded the groundbreaking electronica duo Puddu Varano and released three albums and a number of singles before splitting up in 2002.Today Alex puddu is one of the most direct and creative artist and composer of our days, truly devoted to the italian vintage sound of the giallo/horror movies from the early seventies. EVERETT B WALTERS "CATCHING THE H TRAIN"

Guitarist, Michael Everett Brown and Bassist, Harold Walter Brown III, the two brothers from the south side of Chicago are the founders and driving force behind the jazz/funk group Everett B. Walters. Along with Stan Small on Keyboards/Lead VocalsEd Morales Percussion Lay down some funky, smooth and danceable rhythms make for an outstanding live show and those same fresh grooves are carried throughout their album, Always High Reaching which features Keyboardist, Brian Simpson on the title track. Always High Reaching is a stellar recording with a host of talented musicians including Shawn Rivera (Az-yet), Alexx Daye, Mike White-drums, Alex Alessondroni-keyboards, Alex Al- bass, Simone Sello-Guitar and Leo Crowe-Guitar. The track “And The Story Goes” was a popular European single on JAZZ FM double CD compilation, The Very Best of Smooth Jazz. After hearing this track on the compilation CD, Rendezvous recording artist, Brian Simpson decided to cover it on his hit Smooth Jazz album, It’s All Good.From the beginning:Growing up in Chicago, the Brown brothers started their career in the Chicago Vocational Music Program but it was a neighborhood friend, Tom Washington (Tom-Tom 84), who recorded and arranged with super-group Earth, Wind and Fire that influenced them most. Tom would come by their practices and invited them to record with him and introduced them to writing & pre-production. After high school they performed regularly around the Chicago area at community events, private events and clubs including the infamous Cotton Club, The Click and also opened for the late Bernie Mac in the early 90’s. Looking to expand their performance opportunities, Michael and Harold left Chicago and headed for Las Vegas and began playing regularly at Caesar’s Casino, the MGM Casino, Chez’s and The Hop. KARL DENSON'S TINY UNIVERSE "NEW AMMO"

Karl Denson and his longstanding band of brothers known as the Tiny Universe are finally back with their fourth studio effort entitled “New Ammo“. The bands ”invigorated orchestral approach inspired by the gritty, funk-fueled soundtracks of 1970s’ cinema” is found all over the record – which also features a number of special guests, including frequent Denson collaborators Robert Walter (keyboard) and Mike Dillon (vibes and percussion) as well as Anthony Smith and singer Nicki Bluhm on the album’s first single ‘My Baby‘.While the band looked to move forward from the roots-oriented sounds of 2009′s “Brother’s Keeper“, they also looked back even further to do so attempting to catch the vibes of earlier Tiny Universe records for “New Ammo“. On shaping the new albums sound, Denson recalls “My approach has always been that we’re a dance band that dips into the jazz realm; It’s pretty much still the same, but things change as you listen to more music which develops your artistic outlook on things. So along with our regular funk fare, we’re trying to orchestrate up a bit, with music, art and thought being our new ammunition.”

Kéknyúl Hammond Band (Blue Rabbit) started off in 2008 as an instrumental formation, mostly so that keyboard player Mátyás Premecz (Barabás Lőrinc Eklektriknek, The Qualitons) should have an opportunity to wheel out his 60 year old Hammond organ. The band took a slightly new direction when actor and singer Andrew Hefler joined the group, and the band’s first studio album The Wind Plays Me was born. With the addition of his voice and more brass this new album has a more new-soul-jazz-funk flavour. Hard to define, impossible not to like. Kéknyúl Hammond Band plays in a unique setup in Hungary, the Hammond organ takes the lead and bass, drum, guitar and an impressive brass section perform original works. KEKNYUL BAND

DYLAN MEEK "AND WHEN"

Dylan Meek is one of the up and coming talents of the modern music scene. He's a virtuoso pianist, fresh sounding composer and soulful singer. His first album illuminates all his talents and is the first shot across the bow of his upcoming long and successful career.In the 21st century jazz is blessed with yet another golden age of young jazz pianists. Still in their twenties are stars like Eldar Djangirov, Jonathan Batiste, and Aaron Diehl, while slightly older veterans like Bill Charlap, Ted Rosenthal, Renee Rosnes, and Brad Meldau, delight audiences every time they sit behind a keyboard. Even in such August company, Dylan Meek stands out.
Dylan is one of the most original and versatile pianists to come along in the last decade, a true keeper of the Jazz Flame. He has thrilled audiences at Harlem's Lenox Lounge and every other venue he performs at in New York City with his glorious performances blending Blues, BeBop, Stride, Gospel, Boogie Woogie, and Swing, a capsule history of jazz piano styles of the past and the present. When people look up and see a young, blond, Texas born, musician still in his early twenties, there is a moment of shock. Even the noisiest crowd stops and listens, blown away by the energy, fire, spirit, and originality of Dylan's solos.This Debut disc features originals (Passion Fruit, And When, Two Sweet) and standards ( Gee, Baby, Ain't I Good to You, When you wish upon a Star, Wail, and Yesterdays). Accompanied by master musicians Ben Wolfe on bass, and Gregory Hutchinson on drums, at the top of their game, Meek gives forth a program so exciting that one can hardly sit still. ERICK HOVEY "BLUES FARM"

Based in the wonderfully named Fort Dodge in Iowa, Erick Hovey learnt the basic blues scale when he was only eight years old. Erick has improved on this in such a stupendous way that this album makes you wonder why you haven’t come across his name before? Out of these dozen tunes, the delightful Patchouli certainly grabbed my attention. It is songs like this which make you yearn for an extended version as this groove never becomes tiresome. Fight That Monkey opens with guitar but this is soon joined by vocals which blew me away. Pronounced by Real Blues Magazine as being among their top hundred new releases for 2009, I would urge others to follow their and my own advice to try their utmost to track down a copy of this very distinguished The opener on the Blues Farm CD, “Ball and Chain,” has a slow, moody, funky backdrop with some terrific understated guitar work. “Know Who You Are” is more upbeat, almost blues/rock with Hovey’s ragged but right guitar, and features some tasty harmonica from Andy Blumenthal and keyboards from Tom Gary. “Soda Pop Girl” is a gentle swinger about a girl who drives our protagonist around town while he drinks, and “Patchouli” is highlighted by Hovey’s stinging guitar fills. Other highlights include the atmospheric “Runnin’ With A Full Moon,” the jazzy workout, “Fight That Monkey,” “Missing Part,” and the guitar-driven shuffle, “I’m Through.” Hovey’s a fine guitarist and his vocals are solid and suit the material well, and he gets excellent support from Blumenthal (harmonica), Gary (keys), Jeff Foreman (drums), Dan Lodden (bass), and Heather Kelly (vocals). HYLEEN GIL "ELUSIVE"

Hyleen Gil è un cantante soul francese, lei attualmente sta registrando il suo album imminente, che dovrebbe essere pronto alla fine di quest'anno.
